Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have arrested four people and seized an estimated £1m worth of illicit drugs following “meticulous detective work” carried out over six months.

The GMP raid took place yesterday morning (September 28) as officers from the serious organised crime group and tactical aid unit executed six warrants, having used surveillance and telecommunications data to identify those believed to be behind a suspected drugs network.

Class A, B and C drugs as well as prescription medicines were being stored and distributed on “a significant commercial scale” said the police force after they uncovered drugs thought to be worth more than £1m at a residential property on Manchester Road.

“A significant proportion of the haul consisted of prescription-type medication, alongside bodybuilding and weight loss drugs,” said GMP.

The four men, who are aged between 23 and 52, were detained for questioning. Over 30 mobile phones were seized to assist GMP in its investigation, with an estimated £60,000 in cash also recovered.

Detective inspector Rich McCorry said: Let this be a clear message to anyone choosing to involve themselves in serious and organised crime: Greater Manchester Police will not stand for it and we will find you. We will work relentlessly to disrupt the lifestyle your criminality is funding.

“We believe this is a sophisticated and well-established organised crime group. The premises we entered today were fully equipped with security measures, laptops and large quantities of drugs, indicating what we suspect was a highly organised operation supplying drugs both online and in person to customers nationally.

“A huge amount of work has taken place behind the scenes to reach this point, and today’s action demonstrates that dedication.

“Our investigation does not end with these arrests, and we will continue to follow the evidence and pursue those we believe are involved.”
